Day 36. Mackinac Island. Michigan.

Up bright and early for our breaky and ferry trip across to the Island. Another sunny day, we really have been incredibly lucky with the weather. The crossing across the lake was smooth but very windy up on top. The islandcappeared with the Grand Hotel standing out and Sheries former husband used to work there and Sherie also lived and worked at another smaller hotel, due to interesting racial issues and this was only 1994. The owners of the Grand could not have workers of different colour working for them, Sherie is white and her husband at the time was African American.
No cars on the island so bikes and horse drawn carriages. Gorgeous homes and shops and great little streets. The horse drawn carriage took us around the island and the drivers gave us lots of info. The island is only open to tourists for 4 months, the rest of the year its closed due to frozen lake and snow. Hard to believe, and they even ferry the horses away to graze in more moderate climes.
We had a lovely time wandering around, lunching and then heading back on the ferry, then the 4 hour drive back. But... the island acceeded my expectations it really was a wonderful trip.
Now to pack and I catch the bus to Delaware tomorrow while Brian heads onto Indi!!

  1. Did you get any fudge? I am not a huge fudge person, but will always buy a pound of it when I am on the island - usually a half pound of peanut butter and half pound of Maple Walnut.
