Savannah. Day 2. 10th April.
Up early this morning as we'd booked a walking tour. So after breaky walked to Reynolds square where we met our guide. So he didn't have to shout he gave us ear phones. He was extremely knowledgeable and I just love the story of the Englishman Oglethorpe coming to Savannah with these ideas that were way ahead of his time. The settlers were interviewed before being allowed to come to ensure they agreed with the principals of an equal society and working for the good of all. Oglethorpe was also keen to work with the native Indians. His town plan included a grid pattern, his 24 squares and very wide streets and sidewalks all using the Freemason measurements. Fascinating stuff. We then had some lunch and took a lift(like an uber) to Bonaventure Cemetery which was out of Savannah. Used to be part of a plantation then a sort of park/playground for workers to go to and then a Cemetery. Again designed using many freemason symbols. Very hot walking around but some intere...
