Thursday 29th May 2025. Belton Chalet, Glacier National Park, Montana.
My brother Brian's preparation for this trip never ceases to amaze me. The shuttle from the hotel took me to the train station at Whitefish and 35 minutes later I was off again heading to my new accommodation. Brian's notes told me to cross the highway carefully, stop for a cuppa at the gas station (I went to their rest rooms instead as I had cuppas and breakfast before I left last night's hotel) Then heading east past the highland hotel to the Belton Chalet. Not more than 100metres. In his research Brian was very taken with this Chalet. Built by the railway, which is close by and built to look like a Swiss Chalet he thought it would be well worth a visit. And again he wasn't wrong. A fire was going as I checked in. Tea and cakes were available. The receptionist Sydney remembered me from our many emails and she continued to be very helpful even offering to drive me to the meeting point tomorrow for my ride to the sun!!!! My room is really quaint and the surrounding gardens are beautiful. Brian really is with me all the way.
After a little snooze(another very early start this morning) I went for a walk. It was very warm out and I think too hot for bike riding so I walked around town and checked out the shops. Lots of souvenirs so I'm very happy!! Back to the Chalet and read for awhile down I the games room and now ready for dinner. I booked into the restaurant attached to the Chalet and plan to raise a glass to Brian for organising this amazing trip.
Ooo! I am warming to this part of the world. I smile at the remnants of earlier architecture and the American penchant for using stone in the buildings, especially the fire places. All so much more appealing than steel and concrete. Love the Welcome Tray in your room. All looks calm, laid back and green. Not so many people. Yay Brian🥰
ReplyDeleteYour room looks lovely and spacious too. How was Amtrak? Was the train crowded. How long was the journey?
