Wednesday 22nd May. A tour of the old working class area of Strasbourg and Apero on Melba.
Had a delicious breakfast prepared by Mark and a cuppa with milk. Then off to do our tour. Another very good guide. Free and in English but a tip necessary. Before we started I checked out a few souvenir shops and then off we went. Who knew Protestants comes from protesters as they were back then, to the Catholic church. We saw the working class area of tanners, rotating bridges as river boats went through and again the beauty of Strasbourg. And we stopped and had lunch after our tour. Ahh fois gras. Delicious. We went back to the cathedral to check out the souvenirs I'd seen. Again it rained but I got my souvenirs. Back on the rail train. We use them for getting in and out of town.
Deb did preparation while I packed. Then their friends Sandra and Ross arrived for apero. Deb prepared potato wedges, terrine, tomato and cheese, heated sausage, yum. So S and R are from WA and decided to sell up and buy anew home, a barge. 18mtr, 2 bedrooms, what more would the want, with the added advantage of moving it around. They brought it over from the Thames, UK and plan to head south along the canals.
In saying that Deb and Mark l9ve it here and plan to stay, using Melba as a base while they house sit over France and perhaps beyond!! The case is packed again, the alarm set. 6am!! An user is coming at 6.45 to take me to the station for my 7.30am train. This should get me int Paris in plenty of time for my flight to Turkey and my next adventure, the bike and boat.
Safe travels on the next section.
ReplyDeleteThe town looks gorgeous.
Working again today.. money into next holiday OR probably to pay for the gas bill. It has been so cold. That's a thought : working means I'm keeping warm at their expense!
ReplyDeleteThat’s the area of Strasbourg that I explored! Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteAh to have the means and life circumstances to decide to make wandering Europe a lifestyle. I am nearly jealous.
ReplyDeleteTime for the next adventure!
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant life changing choice for Debra Joy & Mark!
Love the sound of their lifestyle
