Tuesday 28th May. Off the boat onto our bikes at Ekincik Koyo to Dalyan. 31 KMS.
Despite the low kms there were still hills to climb but lots of stops today. We always get a substantial break to get us ready. Water and fruit to take. Our first stop was at the mud baths. I'd worn my togs so was quick to get in. Some lovely poms helped me in as you have no idea where you are putting your feet. Finally sort of fell in. Again the getting out was tricky, but got out covered in mud. Supposed to take 25 years off your life. The places it end up could do with rejuvenation!! You can bake or like me jump in the water then shower. However I still had mud in some interesting places. We then rode to a picnic spot beside a lake and a local family made us gozleme and Turkish teas(like yoghurt) Then on again to some Roman ruins. The amphitheatre was most impressive. The marshes around eventually meant malaria cleared them out.
We walked down to a little ferry boat that took us along the water ways to see the Lycian Rock tombs. Built b4 the Romans but they didn't know they were there. You can only view from the water but impressive. Then the little ferry boat took us thru the marshes out to the sea to our waiting boat, HOWEVER the waves were too high so plan 2. Our boat headed to a calmer Cove and we followed in rough sea with waves coming over the front. A bit scary but finally calm water and we got off on the Admiral. I was first off!!! My white hair helps in lots of situations!!
Hard to believe you had rough seas.
ReplyDeleteThe tombs look impressive.
Glorious autumn days ... at the moment.... not going to last long.
What a day of fabulous experiences! The tombs look amazing. And that thick slushy mud! I bet it got into every lil crevice! The country looks great...is it one of the best boat & bike rides?
ReplyDeleteOMGosh I laughed a lot…at your commentary and then the photos. Such an interesting day. Greenery on the hills and not dry rocks ( which I also like); that mud bath is a classic; wonderful to have a local family hand make your snack; those tombs are most impressive in structure and age.
ReplyDeleteA very interesting day- mud baths look great and local food too! Enjoyed your description of the boat journeys.
ReplyDeleteCan’t wait to see how peaches and cream your skin will look when you get home! Love the tombs. What an interesting part of the world.
