Thursday 9th May. Louisville and Lebanon, Kentucky.
We headed off very bright and early first our road trip and as I won't be returning I packed my case again. Off we went over incredibly lush country side all homes beautifully mowed and everything looking so green. We arrived in Louisville on the bank of the Ohio and in Kentucky now. Our stop was to see the Muhammed Ali Centre. Very interesting to see his life. It showed him as the loud-mouth I remember, the Louisville lip as he was known. After his boxing days were over he was much more of a humanitarian and of course his coping with Parkinsons. He was an amazing boxer/sports person. From there we walked up the Louisville streets to the Slugger Museum and factory. My baseball knowledge is limited to Babe Ruth and Lou Gerhig and what my friends in Adelaide, Karyn and Geoff show me when I visit. It was very interesting.
We finally got some lunch, delicious hamburgers and fries, then headed back to the car fir the next leg of the trip, to our Airb&b in Lebanon. We are in the heart of bourbon country and will visit distilleries tomorrow. A very cute Air b&b and beautiful grounds with a babbling brook running through it.
You could do a lot of damage with a bat like that!
ReplyDeleteI managed to avoid all mention of baseball and bourbon while in Kentucky.
ReplyDeleteI think you will need more training, Lorraine, re fit for boxing! A fun day for exploring popular US culture.
