Thursday 30th May. Our boat moored in Gemilier, rode from the beach to Kayakoy to Fethiye. 25kms.

The tenders took us to the beach where we plugged our bike battery in and got ready to ride to Kayakoy. Again beautiful weather and despite uphill the cool morning weather makes it a pleasure,  along with the beautiful  views when you get to the top. Downhill into Kayakoy, past farms, and even camels to our spot for lunch after a big walk to the top of a hill surrounded by ruins. This was a thriving community of Rums back in 3000BC. Unfortunately after WW1 Ataturk decreed that only Turks could live in Turkey, so this community of Greeks, despite living for generations there were told to leave and a similar number of Turks in Greece returned. Some of the buildings were taken apart to use in Greece,  the heat and eventually an earthquake meant the community fell into ruin. Making our way on foot, not my preferred mode, up rocky steps and then rocks like mountain goats. Exhausting and then the scary walk down. Fortunately the delightful Brazilian men made sure I got down safely, holding my hand for much of the way. This white hair certainly engenders considerable respect and consideration!!

I was exhausted but safe and our lunch was waiting. Fresh orange juice with pomegranate juice was delicious. I'm never very hungry so just had a toasted sandwich.  Back on our bikes for a big hill to go up and then the lovely downhill ride. We arrived into Fethiye. A very busy port with many very expensive boats and heavy traffic, first time.  I decided I'd had enough and 6 of us headed back to our boat. The rest went around the peninsular getting a view of all the tourist resorts that we saw from the front. In June, July, Augusta this area would be thick with tourists, soaking up the extreme  heat and simply laying under umbrellas and swimming  in the Mediterranean. It really is a beautiful  part of the world but very hot.

  2. What a totally memorable day. Just loving where you are. Totally new part of the World to me. I have thought of you Anne, but I don’t remember you doing mud baths. Lorraine, you are certainly flying the flag for us white-haired generation. An attitude the youngies can aspire to. Also can’t believe you’ve gone from over-sized meals to not feeling really hungry after all of that exercise.

  3. No mud baths for me Karyn. I'll leave that to Lorraine.
Gorgeous photo of the boat in that blue water.
Well done on all those hills.
