Monday 13th May. Nashville and the General Jackson paddle steamer.
A nice sleep in today as we didn't have anything planned till this afternoon. As we were going out for dinner and a show on the paddle steamer and spending time at the Gaylord Old Oprey hotel I wore my good gear. When time to leave it was misty rain but not cold. The uber dropped us off at the complex. It's huge and Mr Gaylord started building it as an add on to a C & W radio station. It got bigger and bigger and now covers many acres. A convention centre, a swimming, wave pool complex, numerous gardens and all under cover. And of course accommodation and restaurants. It's close to the New Oprey, built to replace the old one we saw yesterday.
After spending 3 hours wandering around the complex we took the shuttle to the paddle steamer on the Cumberland River. Big crowds, music and amazing drinks until we sailed off. Then down to our table which we shared with others. A delicious meal, buffet style, and then the show. The band that entertained us b4 our dinner was again great and joined singers to give us another history of famous C and W singers. An excellent show. The steamer sailed close to Nashville and then returned. After the show we returned and disembarked. Home to our B&B ready for our final leg to my conference in Lexington tomorrow.
A most impressive and grand complex. The US is choc a bloc full of everything BIG. Another great day of special sights.
