Friday 10th May. Makers Mark, Lebanon, Kentucky.
A leisurely start to the day in our little AirB&B. I finished a book I'd been reading and we headed off to the Distillery called Makers Mark for a tour and of course a tasting of bourbon. Again beautiful country side. Lush green, rolling hills. Needed a light jacket today as the sun tried to peep through. This Distillery is very old, starting in the 1800s and the Williams family still continue it today. Margie Williams, the wife, was responsible for marketing it with distinctive packaging. A beautiful building and grounds, showing off the art work she enjoyed. The tour of the Distillery was very interesting as I found out about the making of bourbon. Yesterday we saw lots of very large black buildings dotted around the countryside that belonged to Jim Beam. The casks of bourbon are stored in these as the bourbon matures. The buildings are black to absorb the heat. Then the tasting. I really tried to smell it, savour it etc but really it all just tasted yuk to me. I obviously don't have the palette for bourbon!!!
However we had fun putting our own wax seal on the bottles we bought. Then a delicious late lunch. I liked the bourbon glaze on my meat loaf. Then a special bourbon cocktail after lunch while relaxing in rocking chairs overlooking the farm. Nice way to end the day.
Obvious dislike!
ReplyDeleteThe look says it all.
ReplyDeleteA selection of well-taken photos. Hooray…greens on your plate! Is that another Chilhuly? Love those that support The Arts.
ReplyDeletePs. Gasped at those open vats of fermenting alcohol. You could just stick your finger in😂
ReplyDeleteLove the red shutters on those black buildings. Jus imagining the aroma of all that fermenting mush.
