Wednesday 3rd May. Santiago de Compostela.

Aftrr breaky we walked over to our meeting place for the bus, which took us to Santiago. I am amazed at th bridges in this part of the world. It is hilly but the bridges are so modern and blend in with the old ones too. The road system is fantastic and it is a very modern and progressive part of Spain. Very little poverty and everything  is very clean and tidy.

Once we got to Santiago we saw the pilgrims  making there way to the Church, I guess just like when Anne and Judy did it. The weather was much cooler than yesterday so comfortable for walking. Off the bus and our tour guide started with the history of the place. An amazing combination of building styles and parts even looked to have Asian influence.  All of course based around the pilgrim who found St James bones and the church was built. We went around the church and inside. Beautiful and very ornate. Pilgrims everywhere,  walkers and bike riders. After the tour we went for lunch. A bit up market but the wait staff were a tad arrogant and rude. Something we've never experienced.  Then we were let loose to visit all the souvenir shops. Ahhhhhh I love a good souvenir shop!! I finally tracked down some pins for Brian. Back on the bus and home again. Dinner later tonight, really I so have to pace myself as we always seem to be eating.  Fortunately we do lots of walking. Today was our cultural day, back to meetings tomorrow.

  1. I LOVED Santiago de Compostela. We were lucky enough to be able to explore the whole town and yes tons of tourist shops. Looks like they have finished renovating inside the Cathedral? I agree that the road/ rail system is incredible. Enjoy

  2. Ornate is an understatement. I wonder how the pilgrim could recognise St James by his bones!

  3. Very fertile, that north-west corner of Spain. Combined with Pilgrim Economics authorities have some money to play with…and economic motivation to do so!!
