Friday 5th May. Last day in Ourence.
Can you believe it , I was first to breaky today. Then we went to visit schools in Ourence. Some of the COST students from the US who are here doing a placement took us around.
Incredible to see a school in an apartment type building. So squashed in between buildings, no open green play grounds and different grades on different floors. The COST students usually teach English, as that part of the curriculum here. They were all so welcoming. School starts at 9, then 2 hours off from 1-3 then back again till 5. Most go home for lunch and a siesta. When we walk around town, shops are closed and reopen around 5. So back for lunch and fond farewells to those leaving. A few of us don't go till tomorrow so we went off for a wander and a drink in the plaza. Well go out again later for drinks and tapas as we're really not very hungry. Tomorrow I catch the train back to Madrid, then to the airport for my evening flight to Faro in Portugal. Marianne and JO will be there to pick me up!! Lucky me again.
Down to breakfast first???? Hard to believe. Where was the proof?
ReplyDeleteAh the shell! So many memories.
I've seen a few of upper rise schools. Cuba had them and as you have seen, Europe and Japan too. Imagine kids and parents in Australia not having a playground? In Cuba they played out in the plaza. The soccer ball was whizzing in and out of shoppers and tourists.
Safe travels. Enjoy.
Apartments all around. It’s a different way of life but one I guess we have to get used to here as our population grows.
ReplyDeleteJust wrote a whole screed and it disappeared. Sad about apartment schools. I saw it in Rio, Gloria. Perhaps it's the only way a school can function.
ReplyDeleteFirst to breaky?? No way!
OK that worked. Went to Mt Macedon yesterday 11 degrees! So soak up the warmth Smith! They expect snow today!
ReplyDeleteApartment living intrigues many a free-ranging Aussie. Cat Stevens’ Where do the children Play has come to mind many times. But… if that is what you are used to. A fun Part Two, Lorraine.
ReplyDeleteApartment school and 2 hr break- totally different to us!
