19th October. Cairo.






Beautiful  nights sleep. Didn't  hear a thing and slept thru. Wonderful. Up bright and early for breaky and then onto the bus to head to Sakkara to see the step pyramid...the oldest one. Crawled down into a tomb of an important official and saw beautiful  carvings on the walls.

Onto Memfis to see rug weaving. They took credit card so bought a couple. Very pleased with them. And the workers,  some young children, work so fast. Then onto lunch overlooking the Pyramids.  Incredible to see. 9 all together but 3 big ones for the men and little ones for the queens. Took a camel ride around them. Scary up so high but lots of fun. More walking around the pyramids and then onto the sphinx. Much smaller than I imagined but all so impressive.
Finally back to our hotel and have cooled down with a swim. A tad weary but so great to see everything.
I am having trouble downloading photos as wifi is very weak. Sorry.

    You can come home now! Pyramids and Sphinx done already!! Good to hear from you. Eating and swimming a pleasant balance to crawling into ancient tombs.

Tuesday 10th June, 2025. Crinan to Jura.

 Boy I slept well after a big day. I was sooo cold and wet but recovered well after a hot shower and into dry clothes. Everything  was sopping and it was hard to find where to dry everything.  Fortunately today was sunny!! So we hung our clothes outside on the boat. They sailed after our bike ride. We did 27kms along the  Crinan canal and even watched a boat go in and out the locks. Ahh it took me back. A beautiful bike ride today. No hills and the sun was glorious.   We had lunch at Kilmartin and I had soup again. And an amazing hot chocolate.  We then did a few burial sites and some stones( much smaller than Stonehenge) We rode back to Crinan and off we sailed to Jura. Lovely smooth sailing and we played Phase 10. We sat outside to eat our delicious dinner( the food is wonderful on the boat) Unfortunately the midges came in so inside. We're  now over at the pub to check out our grog of choice!!! Beautiful  sunny weather predicted for tomorr...

Sunday 8th June 2025. Edinburgh and now Oban, Scotland.

 Arrived bright and early into Edinburgh and it felt like we were in a big warehouse. Certainly not flash, but so easy to get into Scotland,  took no time at all. Put my case into storage and took a bus into town. Bus driver was great and told me about the tourist spots. I walked around in the sun and checked out the castle and all the other monuments.  I even went to church and listened to the choir. Got back on the bus back to the airport and headed over to the Hampton hotel where I was getting picked up. Michael  had texted me to confirm pick up so all good.  Picked up with others and 3 hours later we arrived in Oban. Beautiful scenery.  The boat , the Flying Dutchman,  is much more rustic than all my other trips but food is great and again very well organised and of course this time I have my mate Marion from Melbourne and we've already paled up with Cathryn from Canada. We're drinking gin and tonics b4 we head back to the boat.  40 kms tomorr...

Friday 20th June 2025. Buckingham Palace, afternoon tea and F &M and a show in the west end.

 Yes I packed in a bit today as it was a little cooler. I had a nice chatty phone call from Tim and then headed to the bus to Hyde Park corner. I then walked down to Buck house under the glorious  shady trees. London  really shines at this time of the year. All the gold is shiny and sparkles,  flags and bunting everywhere.  I got there in time for the changing of the guard as did the big crowd. I finally got up onto Victoria's statue and got a good view of the famous balcony. I walked back up and finally found the bus to take me to Fortnum and Masons. I decided to lash out on afternoon  tea and yes it was a lash out. They add an extra £10 for service, really!! But it was lovely and definitely a one off. I couldn't eat everything so they pack it in a box and I shared it with the staff here at the Norfolk.  Later I headed in by the tube to Charing Cross to see Mrs Warren's Profession.  Imelda Staunton and her daughter were in it playing mother and d...
