Kampen, the Netherlands. Day23. 1st May.
Up bright and early again today as we leave Urk and head to Kampen, across the Ijselmeer again. This is a huge body of water and not as misty today so you could see the wind farms more clearly. A good run into Kampen as no sluices or bridges.
Some big master boats passed us and their masts were so high they had to ask for the bridge to be raised.
We came off the lake and into the Ijssel river. Our mooring was through a little gap and too hard to reverse into so we drove in and moored. A very cosy mooring. Had lunch then Deb and I walked into the town which is very close by.
We did some shopping, stopped for an ice cream and went into the church where the organ was being played. Beautiful. Kampen is an old walled city with the original gates to let people in still visible. We've checked out a hire bike for me tomorrow to explore Kampen to Zwolle. We are staying here for 4 days so sleep in tomorrow.

Loved the gates and the bakery/ ice-cream didn't really need a sign. Looking cold?
ReplyDeleteBucketing down here at this minute, but won't last long (I hope). Only had 9 mm.
Judy, Mary and I are doing a longer walk today. Just spent time waterproofing my walking shoes. Should have done it ages ago but been too busy. Worked yesterday in the art room.
You are SO lucky to be missing all the garbage about the elections!
Impressive masted boat. Another way to travel on the extensive waterways. Great photos of the moored Melba. I now have more of an idea of its layout. I love the wood. Another atmospheric town to indulge oneself in. We have postponed Sri Lanka. Will work on our options. I agree with Anne re elections. Grrrr!
ReplyDeleteThe Netherlands is looking like a lovely place to visit. Once again it's so much nicer outside the big cities. Hope you've been helping with your specialty, the ropes!
