Deventer. Day 30. May 8th
Up early to reverse out of our tight moorings at Veessen. Mark again, did a great reverse, with me on fender duty and Deb on ropes. Out in the river again and off to Deventer. Lots of barges along the way and at one point where it was a tight bend, Mark recognized the blue light on an oncoming barge which meant he would pass on the opposite side due to him having to get around the band. Impressive.
Again lots of caravan parks along the way as the river is obviously popular with water sports in summer.....whenever that is as cold and wet again today.
Arrived at Deventer marina by 10.30am and into our mooring. Always happy when moored. An early lunch then into town. We discovered that the marina had free bikes to use. No gears and back pedal brakes and typically Dutch with incredibly high handle bars. Impossible to get on as the handlebars get in the way. I put my seat down which helped. A good ride into town, then to train station to buy my ticket for Friday. Then a wander around town. Very pretty with a huge square and statue of Albert Schweitzer who was supported financially by the town on his time in Africa. Found a lovely place for coffee and cake.
Mark returned home and Deb and I rode around a bit more before heading back , just in time as the rain came down. We all had a snooze and woke in time to go for dinner at the marina. What a meal. Deb got a whole chook, I got a delicious Weiner schnitzel and Mark got a steak. Beautiful meal.
Home to warm Melba as weather has got worse. Watched some films and now time for bed. This part of my trip is almost at an end unfortunately.

ReplyDeleteInternet back!! A whole chook! Like having a whole small crayfish which is apparently the new thing. A most pleasurable time...that you will be able to add to NEXT year no doubt!?? I noticed the lack of people in some places, but lots of chairs. Gearing up for summer.
