Day 39. Stan Hywet Hall, Akron, Ohio.
What a wonderful day. Paula and I drove to Akron to view this mansion while Tom drove to meet Brian in Toledo at an aircraft museum. Brian then followed him home to their house where I saw him again after we got home.
So this mansion , so names after the english term for a quarry, which it was built on. Mr and Mrs Seiberling built their family home after much study, research and travel to homes in England. It took 3 years to build, and was opened in 1913. Mr Seiberling was a business man in rubber and with his brother founded the Goodyear tyre company. What impressed me about the place was that it was essentially a loving family home and much care was given to the 20 domestic staff so laundry was modern, staff had lovely rooms and even their own tennis court and he even built towns for his workers near to the work place. Fortunately when the family could no longer run it they simply left everything in it and the town took it over and it is an incredible place to visit.

Gorgeous gardens. I love the path through the silver birches.
