Day 6. Oatman,Hackberry and Seligman.
A delightful airb&b meant I had a great sleep. We went down to London Bridge on Lake Havasu for pizza and met some locals. Fun talking about conservative Arizona with a poloceman and his teenage son. Good fun. Brian and I discussed the time spent on the road as yesterdays 9 hours was a tad too long!! Off again after say7ng goodbye to our lovely hosts, we even exchanged souvenirs!! We got russian dolls from Nonna.
Our first stop was Oatman, a little minning town that experienced a flash flood the day before and nearly washed the place away. Amazing place, donkeys everywhere and souvenirs, very authentic. Drove on through winding ways incredible scenery, so many contrast of rock and mountain formations. Some of the places along the way are a hotchpotch of memorabillia of days long past. Out of Hacberry it had cooled a bit down to 27 so we put the roof down. What a blast, earplugs in playing Frankie Valli and 4 seasons, Brian his music blaring. Woowhew. As the rain came over we stopped and put the roof up as we drove into Seliman. Motel tonight and not alot here, but owners are Sri Lankan so I have made friends with Sandi and Rex, showed them pics of my boys, discussed Sri Lanka. And we arrive at 3pm so a good amount of time. This Route66 is amazing with its scenery and rock formations, I hope my pics do it justice. On to the Grand Canyon tomorroww!!!

I'm enjoying your posts Lorraine. Great that you're not just speeding down a highway too.
ReplyDeleteReally enjoying your posts Lorraine. What a great trip. Hope those Airbnbs keep improving. We ad the the absolute pleasure of seeing JC Superstar last night - an intense, spectacular production. Thinking of going back next week to see it again. Still nothing confirmed on K's house but things are at least moving along slowly. Love from all at Wallan & Wandong.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your adventures each day- especially in cold, wet Lilydale.
